When mustering your army (see page 55 of the 10th edition Warhammer 40,000 rulebook) on step 3 choose one Faction keyword to be your army faction as normal. This Faction keyword cannot change after the first round of the season has started. You are free to play allies that are legally available to you. For rounds 1-4 if you have won your previous game you are list locked cannot make changes to your Detachment rules, Selected Units and Selected Warlord (see steps 4-6 on page 56). If you lost your last game you can change your Detachment rules, Selected Units and Selected Warlord. Changes can be made after you have played the current round\’s game and BEFORE the pairings are published for the next round (applies to round 1-4). See “FAQ: List Lock Rules”
Example: You start the season choosing Faction keyword Astra Militarum with Creed as your warlord. You can play with Imperial Knights and/or Agents of the Imperium allies but the army faction must remain Astra Militarum.
The Faction keywords are:
Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Custodes, Adeptus Mechanicus, Aeldari, Agents of the Imperium, Astra Militarum, Chaos Daemons, Chaos Knights, Chaos Space Marines, Death Guard, Drukhari, Genestealer Cult, Grey Knights, Imperial Knights, Leagues of Votann, Necrons, Orks, T’au Empire, Thousand Sons, Tyranids, World Eaters
Space Marines (choose one from the following): Black Templars, Blood Angels, Crimson Fists, Dark Angels, Deathwatch, Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Raven Guard, Salamanders, Space Wolves, Ultramarines, White Scars
Note: When choosing a Space Marine Chapter from the list above this becomes your Faction keyword. You are then able to select detachments and units available to that Chapter.
Example – Bob wants to play his Blood Angels for the league. Bob chooses Space Marines (Blood Angels) as his Faction keyword. Bob can then choose from the units and detachments allowed to be taken by Blood Angels from the Space Marine index, plus the units and detachments in the Blood Angel index. Bob must stay playing Blood Angels as his army faction for the entire season, so he cannot switch to Iron Hands after losing a round.
There will be a list-submission deadline before the beginning of the Season and of each round after that. Individual divisions will manage this process differently so check with your divisional exec member.
If an army receives a new codex during the time the league is being run the new rules come into effect the following round after being released. In these situations please speak with your region’s executive member to ensure they are aware of the change.
Any FAQs that are released come into effect immediately, even if it is in the middle of a round.
